Community Center Opening Updates

January 13th update: The Old Hickory Community Center is now working towards an opening date of Saturday, March 21st.

In addition to the December information outlined further below, we also learned more about courses being offered throughout the year.

8-week courses, offered each season:

  • Pottery classes: $125 class fee with $30 studio fee

  • 2-D classes (painting/drawing/printmaking): $95 class fee with $5 studio fee

Periodic courses offered throughout the year:

  • 4-week minicourses in pottery: $70 with all supplies included.

  • 4 to 6-week minicourses in 2-D, prices vary depending on materials needed or included.

  • Youth classes

  • Special 1 day workshops

December’s community meeting as attended by two Metro Parks employees, Ann Thornton and Elona Tribue, to provide us with updates on our soon-to-be-open community center.

While January was previously discussed as a projected opening month, those plans have since been delayed to later in February and are subject to change. There is no specific target date known at this time.

However, we have plenty of specifics we’re excited to share!

  • Prices: Most drop-in amenities are free or low-cost. Fitness center is $3 to drop in, 10 visits for $20, or monthly unlimited for $30. Fitness class 10 pack can be purchased for $40. Discounts are available for teens, seniors, and veterans. Youth sports leagues, adult leagues, and cultural arts classes are offered at low costs. Track and game room are free.

  • Hours of operation will be 6AM-8:30PM M-TH, 6AM-7:30PM Fridays, and 8AM-4PM Saturday. Centers operate on standardized schedules but may adjust for programs, holidays, or special events.

  • Private rentals can be made after hours at a low cost to the community and are for private parties only. During operating hours, rentals are free for community organizations, nonprofits, and community gatherings. Pricing will be verified soon.

  • Programs: Our community center will host a wide variety of programs with the following being listed as possibilities: Dance Fit, Cardio/Strength, Yoga, Senior Strength, Zumba, Teen Fitness, Senior Bingo, Mahjong, Tot Time, Pickleball, Volleyball, Indoor Soccer, Basketball, Badminton, Jr. NBA Youth Basketball, youth soccer, flag football, tee ball, NAZA, Homeschool gym time, line dancing.
