Nashville Storm Safety
For our new neighbors, storms in Tennessee can get pretty rough. Please check out this information from Metro Nashville, with a few notes from the NA Board, on how to stay safe! Also, the Old Hickory Library (1010 Jones St.) has a basement that is available for shelter during business hours.
If thunderstorms are happening in the area, you should:
- Keep informed on the weather; use your battery operated NOAA weather radio for updates (The NA Board Likes to follow Nashville Severe Weather on YouTube and Twitter as well.)
- Avoid contact with corded phones and devices that are plugged in. Unplug computers as power surges from lightning can cause serious damage. (Charge early and have power back-ups if needed.)
- Stay away from windows and doors, and stay off porches. (Please be safe if you absolutely have to record storm videos.)
- Avoid being under isolated trees, open fields, hilltops or boats on the water.
- Please be advised that if there are downed power lines near you, report them to HubNashville.
- If the power is out, please report to NES Power.
- Take shelter in a sturdy building. (The Library has a basement and is available if during their regular business hours!)
- Use extreme caution while driving.
- Remember the 30/30 lightning rule: go indoors if, after seeing lightning, you cannot count to 30 before hearing thunder. Stay indoors for 30 minutes after hearing the last clap of thunder.
